New reissue. Ella Fitzgerald Live in Stockholm 1957

Live In Stockholm 1957
Ella Fitzgerald with the Roy Eldridge Sextet
Featuring: Oscar Peterson (p), Herb Ellis (g), Ray Brown (b), Jo Jones (d), Stuff Smith (vl), Donald Abney (p)

Billed as a Jazz at the Philharmonic performance, this concert consists of two intimate sets: the first showcases Roy Eldridge leading an All Star sextet, while the second part of the concert is the long Ella Fitzgerald set, with just a rhythm section.

Highlights include her powerful renditions of such classics as "Angel Eyes", "Lullaby of Birdland" and "Love for Sale".

The final number, a vigorous version of "It Don't Mean a Thing", brings Roy Eldridge and Stuff Smith back on stage. Stuff Smith, Don Abney, Herb Ellis and Roy Eldridge perform solos.

Great!
I've got most of the Ella set on a Dutch CD issue from 1996, that lacked It Don't mean a Thing, and on which also some Ella in Rome and some of the 1957 JATP concerts at the Opera House appeared.

I especially like this version of Angel Eyes.

this is a great concert, it has been issued several times on minor labels, but it's still one of her best!
